Like any analog device, LDRs age over time. A typical LED's useful life is around 50,000 hours -- at 2 hours of listening a day, that's roughly 68 years. Starting with the V2 controller, auto-calibration compensates for LDR behavior changing with age, and the LDR modules themselves are replaceable, similar to a tube.
