If LDRs sound so good, why don't more manufacturers use them?

LDRs for volume control is not something you see being offered by other preamp manufacturers. Why is that?

LDRs are genuinely hard to work with -- their resistance curves are nonlinear, vary from one LDR to the next even within the same batch, and drift as they break in and age. We spent over a decade developing software-driven digital control to tame that behavior so it performs predictably and precisely. It's not typical audio design, but done right, it sounds very satisfying.
